ARS provides consultation, restoration and conservation of nineteenth century lighting devices; attention is always paid to original surfaces. Below are photographs of our work.

This sinumbra lamp had typical electrification changes: the burner tube was cut down, the burner components were missing and the feet had been removed. The missing portion of the burner tube was added, leaving the historic fabric intact. Next, the burner components were built and installed, and the joint leaks repaired. Finally, replacement feet were custom turned and attached.

This rare, circa 1815 English argand lamp was electrified in the twentieth century; typically, the original burner components were discarded during that process. Based on careful research and discussions with lighting scholars, ARS reproduced the gallery, chimney collar, burner components, and drip cup, bringing this device back to life.

This important argand fixture seemed a “lost cause”: one of the arms was detached; both feeder tubes had pinhole corrosion; and the burner components were missing principal parts, including the shade rings. ARS carried out the appropriate repairs, and today, this lighting device is fully operational.
